In which we went for a walk before dinner

To get to the Altstadt, we had to cross the river Salzach.

The wires above the streets provide electricity to the buses.  Not all the buses are fully electric, but those which operate only around the inner city are.

The Salzach was used in the past to ship salt, but it's too shallow for modern freight shipping.  Today the river was flowing pretty fast due to rain.

After we crossed the bridge, we approached the main tourist shopping area, the Getreidegasse.

I never did get a Mozart Rubber Ducky, but I probably should have.

This is Cafe Tomaselli, a cafe that has been in business for just over three hundred years.  Mozart's widow lived in an apartment above it at one point.  Very good hot chocolate.

In the pinkish building is Cafe Furst, a competitor to Cafe Tomaselli who has also been around forever. Very good cake.

This is the cathedral, which has a connecting passageway to the old residential palace of the Prince Archbishops.  More on both of those later.

The white building behind the cathedral is now home to the Salzburg Museum.

Carriage rides were available to tour the Altstadt, which were affordable if you had a lot of people to stuff into a carriage.  This couple just got married and are now being carted around by a very expensive team of horses.

Here's the cathedral as seen from the entrance.

A statue in front of the cathedral.  We went inside before eventually splitting up to find food, but I'll save the cathedral pictures for another post.
