In which we go to Vienna before I'm done writing about the Salzburg trip

So many pictures, so little time.  I'll start by getting the transit stuff out of the way.

Here we are on the train.  This train was built more recently and had free wifi.

A train station platform.

Landscape.

More landscape.

Some sort of ruin on a hill.

Houses.

Here we're getting closer to Vienna so the towns are getting bigger.

We switched to a local train in Vienna to get to our hotel.  Here's a view out the window at a church of some sort.

We went through the Vienna Hauptbahnhof, but as far as I can tell, the idea of having a Hauptbahnhof in Vienna is a more recent idea.  The system just isn't build around a central station.

Here we're waiting for the tram.

This hotel was also run by nuns.  The upper floors are rooms for retired priests and the lower floors are rented to tourists.  I'm not sure if there are just a lot of hotels run by nuns in Austria or if we just have a skewed sample.  Anyway, comfy beds.  The guy-getting-tortured-to-death decor was a little creepy, but I'm used to that by now.

Shower in what was also the entryway.

The room also had a small balcony.

After settling our things, we headed out to explore the city.

We stopped at the Rochusmarkt for lunch, which had a bunch of different food stands, flower shops, etc.

Here we are in the subway system heading to the cathedral.

It was an amazing trip, more to come later.  I'm tagging all trip posts with the relevant keyword, so all the Vienna stuff is labeled Vienna and Salzburg is Salzburg, etc.
