In which I go gargoyle hunting with the telephoto lens

Have I mentioned how much I love playing with this camera today?

I was waiting for the students to finish wandering around the cathedral and took pictures of some of the interesting stuff.  Then I remembered I had a telephoto lens in my camera bag and started hunting gargoyles.

Here's a clock which has a kind of vanitas background.

A lion protected from pigeons.

There was an observation platform on one of the towers; unfortunately, I ran out of time and never went up in it.

In which we visit the Stephansdom

After dropping our stuff off at the hotel and getting a snack at the Rochusmarkt, we went further into the city.  This is the Stephansdom.

The stonework was lovely.  Here, it's protected by wire mesh, which I assume is to keep the pidgins away, because bird poop is quite corrosive.

This cathedral was more set up to deal with large amounts of tourists.  Visiting the catacombs or approaching the altar required purchasing a ticket for a tour.

The windows were colorful, but plain.  I assume the original stained glass was lost to bombing.

There were also some art installations involving projected light.

Pictures, why are you not autorotating?  *sigh

There were also flat screen tvs above the pews.  I'm not sure how they were used, but giving the international visitors, perhaps translations of the homily?

This photo was taken through the fence that blocks off the tour-only part from the free admission part.  The people in the picture are walking around listening to audio guides.
